Figure 4.26 summarizes the main kinds of interactive meaning we have discussed in this chapter. Curly brackets signify simultaneous choices. They ‘say’, for instance, ‘the representation of a person or a quasi-human participant must be either Demand or Offer’ and select a certain size of frame and select a certain attitude. The graded nature of some of the systems is indicated by double-headed arrows. They ‘say’, for instance, that, rather than a binary choice between ‘involvement’ and ‘detachment’, there is a scale from maximal involvement to maximal detachment.
